Lady Doss Daily Word

December 18, 2008 – God Blocked It.. No Really He Did December 18, 2009

Good Morning. I am going to paint a picture for you… it will require you use your imagination. On the Friday after Thanksgiving I went out and purchased my Christmas tree. I’d always wanted a 9 ft Christmas tree and this year I finally got it. When I arrived home I knew there was no way I could carry this 120lb box into the house alone so I did my usual horn toot to alert my husband of my arrival. Like clockwork I watched the garage door open and two people appear at the door. One was my husband and the other was my son (who is named after him). I told my husband that the box was too heavy for me to carry and asked if he could carry it for me. He agreed but before he came out to lift the box, he told my son to move because the box was too big and too heavy and he didn’t want it to fall on him. He began to carry the box inside the house on his back and as soon as he stepped in the door my son walked into his path. He wanted to help daddy carry the box. He didn’t recognize the box was too heavy for him to carry. Even though my son was in the way of his father, the father was able to save him from the box falling on his head. Although he’d told him to move because the box may fall, he still saved him from it. This illustration is two fold. One, I was mature enough and had enough faith in my husband to carry the burden for me. I knew that it was something I couldn’t do on my own. Two, although my son, who is made in the image of his father (and named after him), stepped in the way (thinking that he could do what daddy could do) his father still saved him from harm.

Think about this in a spiritual sense. Satan tries his best to destroy everyone and everything around you. He may come after you but when that fails he may attack those closest to you. Although you may be strong and faithful someone close to you may not. They may think they can defeat Satan on their own. Isn’t it wonderful to know that even in that situation God STILL carries the burden too heavy for you to lift even though you thought you could do it on your own? Praise God for blocking whatever your “it” may be. To take it a step further, praise Him for blocking those “its” that you never knew existed. For today I am meditating on this scripture:

Psalm 55: 22-23 Pile your troubles on God’s shoulders—
he’ll carry your load, he’ll help you out.
He’ll never let good people
topple into ruin.
But you, God, will throw the others
into a muddy bog,
Cut the lifespan of assassins
and traitors in half.

And I trust in you.

And this song (one of my favorites):

God Blocked It – Kurt Carr

http://www.imeem.com/people/Q7uQcE/music/Yj1DvlHJ/kurt_carr_god_blocked_it/

There were dangers awaiting me
Destruction was sure to be
But thank God for Angels
That were shielding and protecting
And looking out for me
Thank You lord

The Devil had a plan to kill me, I know
But God intercepted his plan
And told the devil, no
God blocked it
He wouldn’t let it be so
No He wouldn’t let it be so

Haven’t lived a perfect life
Seems I’ve done wrong more than I’ve done right
But thank God for compassion and forgiveness
That kept me from a terrible plight

You see, my life was spinning out of control
The fact that I’m still a live today
Ain’t nothing, nothing but a miracle

God blocked it
He wouldn’t let it be so
No, He wouldn’t let it be so

For I’ve got work to do
work to do

God wouldn’t let me die
Because He knew I had work to do

Oh yes

And I’ve got life to live
There are blessings
He wants to give
God blocked it,
He wouldn’t let it be so
No, He wouldn’t let it be so

God blocked it
He wouldn’t let it be so

It was the lord
Nobody but Jesus

March 3, 2009 – Still in Control… March 3, 2009

Good Morning. A week ago I was involved in a collision. I was driving along when I noticed traffic ahead of me slowing. I attempted to stop and nothing happened. I was no longer in control of my car! I immediately asked God to protect me because at that point a crash was inevitable. There were three options for me. I could run off into the ravine to the right of me but I didn’t know if I would ever stop falling, I could hit the cars coming towards me to the left of me but the impact would probably kill me, or I could hit the cars directly in front of me and pray the impact doesn’t hurt too bad. I shifted my car into neutral and slowly applied the parking brake to slow my speed. I’d remembered hearing instructions on what to do in the event of a brake failure so I immediately applied the word that was given me so many years ago. I did crash…it did hurt…but God kept me.

I equate life to a car. For the most part we are able to navigate our lives. We fuel it when necessary. We maintain it by going to visit our doctors and therapists. We care for it by keeping it clean and healthy. However, sometimes our brakes fail. We get into situations and circumstances where a crash is inevitable but thank God for His words of wisdom to soften the blow.We have a choice to go off the deep end by following sin but we don’t know when or if we’ll ever stop falling. We can veer to the left but who knows what lies ahead? Or we can stay on the path provided for us and face the fact that even if we fall our God will pick us right back up.

Not every time were in trouble will God prevent us from falling on our face, but I thank Him for being able to pick me up when I fall. Don’t you?

I Almost Let Go
Kurt Carr

I Almost let go
I felt like I just couldn’t take life any more
My problems had me bound
Depression weighed me down
But God held me close
so I wouldn’t let go
God’s mercy kept me
so I wouldn’t let go

I almost gave up.
I was right at the edge of a break through
but couldn’t see it.
The devil really had me,
but Jesus came and grabbed me,
and He held me close,
so I wouldn’t let go.
God’s mercy kept me,
so I wouldn’t let go.

CHORUS
So I’m here to day because God kept me
I’m A live today only because of His grace
Oh He kept me, God kept me
He kept me,
so I wouldn’t let go

I almost let go.
I felt like I just couldn’t take life anymore.
My problems had me bound,
depression weighed me down,
but God held me close so I wouldn’t let go.
God’s mercy kept me, so I wouldn’t let go.

God kept me, He kept me
God kept me, He kept me
So I’m here to day because God kept me
I’m alive today only because of His grace
Oh He kept me, God kept me
He kept me, so I wouldn’t let go

You didn’t know how far gone I was
God kept me

From The Desk of Lady Doss…

Scripture to Remember…

Isaiah 66: 12-13 God’s Message:
”I’ll pour robust well-being into her like a river,
the glory of nations like a river in flood.
You’ll nurse at her breasts,
   nestle in her bosom,
and be bounced on her knees.
As a mother comforts her child,
   so I’ll comfort you.
You will be comforted in Jerusalem.”

See? Could’ve been worse right??? You’d think Satan would leave me a lone but he just wont quit. Good thing my Daddy loves me and already won the battle. :) Have a wonderfully blessed day today…

 I’m praying for you…

In Him,

March 1, 2009 – Faith in ‘Frosty’ March 1, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — ladydoss @ 8:11 pm

Good Morning. Today I was amazed at how much faith people put in frosty. All week long there has been a buzz around Atlanta about the impending snow storm that was to hit today. The shelves were bare all week and everyone was be preparing for the storm. Even I was pulled into the preparatory shuffle. Today when I woke up it was raining and sleeting. This evidence was enough for me to start to prepare for the storm to come. As I drove to the store it began to snow harder and once arriving the store was jam packed with people purchasing food to prepare for the storm. As I walked the aisles I was amazed at how frantic people were and how much faith they had to believe that the storm was actually coming. People were on their phones instructing their friends, family, and neighbors to get to the stores before it ‘got bad.’ Folks were rushing as if they knew for certain this storm would be a huge one. I was literally in a state of state of shock… wonder why?

Well, we’ve known Jesus was coming back for quite sometime now and churches are still empty. People are still living life as if they don’t know for sure our Savior is returning. You don’t see people running to church like they do the grocery stores. You don’t see people witnessing on their telephones or to their neighbors about Christ’s return.  There are, however, some people who run to the church after receiving a blessing (evidence that He’s realy and comingback) but why are those instances so few and far between?

Jesus IS coming back people… make sure you tell everyone you know to GET READY!

Scripture to Remember…

Matthew 24: 30-31″Then, the Arrival of the Son of Man! It will fill the skies-no one will miss it. Unready people all over the world, outsiders to the splendor and power, will raise a huge lament as they watch the Son of Man blazing out of heaven. At that same moment, he’ll dispatch his angels with a trumpet-blast summons, pulling in God’s chosen from the four winds, from pole to pole.
32-35″Take a lesson from the fig tree. From the moment you notice its buds form, the merest hint of green, you know summer’s just around the corner. So it is with you: When you see all these things, you’ll know he’s at the door. Don’t take this lightly. I’m not just saying this for some future generation, but for all of you. This age continues until all these things take place. Sky and earth will wear out; my words won’t wear out.
36“But the exact day and hour? No one knows that, not even heaven’s angels, not even the Son. Only the Father knows.
37-39″The Arrival of the Son of Man will take place in times like Noah’s. Before the great flood everyone was carrying on as usual, having a good time right up to the day Noah boarded the ark. They knew nothing-until the flood hit and swept everything away.
39-44″The Son of Man’s Arrival will be like that: Two men will be working in the field-one will be taken, one left behind; two women will be grinding at the mill-one will be taken, one left behind. So stay awake, alert. You have no idea what day your Master will show up. But you do know this: You know that if the homeowner had known what time of night the burglar would arrive, he would have been there with his dogs to prevent the break-in. Be vigilant just like that. You have no idea when the Son of Man is going to show up.

Run Till I’m Finished

by Smokie Norful

I have decided
Determined i’m committed
That i’ll run
No matter the cost

And I have decided
Determined i’m committed
That i’ll run
Even though at times I may get lost

I’m going to finish my race
I’m going to take my proper place
In the winning circle

I’m going to run anyway
I dont know where or when or how
But I know that i’m going to make it

Oh i’ll run
This race
Nestled safetly in amazing grace
I’ve made up my mind
And I dont have much time
But i’ll run, Til I Finish

I’m going to run this race
I’m going to take my proper place
In the winning circle

And I’m going to run anyway
I dont know where, I dont know when or how
But I know
I’m going to make it

Oh i’ll run this race
Nestled safetly in amazing grace
I made up my mind
I dont have much time
So i’ll run, Til I Finish

Oh
I made up my mind
I dont have much time
But i’m gonna run,
i’m gonna run, i’m gonna run til I finish
Yeh I made up my mind
I dont have much time
But I’ll run
Til I finish

From The Desk of Lady Doss…

As Lent begins, consider the things that come between you and God, and starting with the words below, hold them up to God as a confession. Confession causes us to face our nature, and can be a frightful thing, but it is also a bridge to God. Sincere confession is always followed by God’s drawing near in forgiveness. As you read, don’t be limited by what is written here. Add your own words as you are moved to.

Holy and merciful Father: We confess to you that we have sinned by our own fault in thought, word, and deed; by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart, and mind, and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We have not forgiven others as we have been forgiven. We have been deaf to your call to serve, as Christ served us.

Father, I confess to you my great pride, impatience, self indulgence, prejudice, contempt, cruelty, and dishonesty. I confess my exploitation of others, envy of those more fortunate, lust for worldly goods and comforts, negligence in prayer and worship, and my failure to stand firm and be a witness to your reality.*

 I’m praying for you…

February 25, 2009 – Dust Yourself Off February 25, 2009

Good Morning. Can you imagine what school would be like if the only time you picked up your textbook was when you went to class?  To put it frankly, most of us would be “dumb as a box of rocks” when it came time for the test. Right? I can remember sitting down for a test I didn’t study for thinking “Ok if they are all multiple choice questions I can at least guess the right answers… ” Isn’t that frustrating? It is especially so when we know that the answer lies in our textbook and we would know had we bothered to pick up the book and read.

So then, why is it that our Bibles sit in our cars all week long only to be used or during class time (Sundays and Wednesdays)? Isn’t our life full of tests and trials? Unfortunately, many churches downplay the importance of studying the scriptures and/or Bible study. However just as children cannot grow to be strong without nourishment, Christians must partake in the Word of God in order to mature as believers.

To take it a step further through study we begin to memorize the scripture. The Word becomes implanted IN us and with that we are able to without hesitation defend our faith. Most often opportunities to share the gospel with others come when we do not have a Bible in hand. It has been said that actual verses from the Bible have penetrating power and when coming straight from the heart our witnessing becomes even more effective.

So today I challenge you for the next 40 days to read your Bible and memorize one scripture. I’ll participate if you will! Who’s with me!?

Scripture to Remember…

READ IT

1 Timothy 4:11-14 Get the word out. Teach all these things. And don’t let anyone put you down because you’re young. Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanor, by love, by faith, by integrity. Stay at your post reading Scripture, giving counsel, teaching. And that special gift of ministry you were given when the leaders of the church laid hands on you and prayed-keep that dusted off and in use.

MEMORIZE IT

Psalm 119:How can a young person live a clean life?
By carefully reading the map of your Word.
   I’m single-minded in pursuit of you;
don’t let me miss the road signs you’ve posted.
I’ve banked your promises in the vault of my heart
so I won’t sin myself bankrupt.
   Be blessed, God;
train me in your ways of wise living.
   I’ll transfer to my lips
      all the counsel that comes from your mouth;
I delight far more in what you tell me about living
than in gathering a pile of riches.
I ponder every morsel of wisdom from you,
I attentively watch how you’ve done it.
I relish everything you’ve told me of life,
      I won’t forget a word of it.

That’s Who You Are
by FGBFC & Paul Morton

Verse

We worship you in this temple

and we crown your majesty

For you are great Jehovah

You are priest over me

Chorus
You are the song I sing

You are the air I breathe

You are my everything

That’s who you are

Well… I’m back! I had to take time and minister to myself as I was going through hell and for everyone of you that prayed, called, texted, & emailed I thank you. I’ve got more Word than ever now so get ready get ready get ready!

Also, remember today is “Ash Wednesday” and the beginning of Lent. Lent is very significant in that it is a season of soul-searching and repentance. It is a season for reflection and taking stock of our lives. It is also a period of fasting and praying. Some denominations require a specific fast and others don’t. I implore you to participate in Lent however that is a decision that can only made by you. Throughout the Lent season I will speak more on it’s spiritual significance in my devotions.

February 5, 2009 – “Oh Really Now” February 5, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — ladydoss @ 2:57 pm

Good Morning. On Tuesday morning a (ex) co worker and I were discussing how bad the economy and job market was. We were discussing how grateful we were for our jobs. We were discussing how devastating it would be to lose our jobs in today’s times… and 2 hours later we were both jobless. It was almost as if God said, “Oh really now… let me see if your tune changes once you’re actually in that situation.” Every word I’d ever written to each of you came flooding back to me. Every song I’d recommended you all listen to began to play in my ear. After a few tears and a few laughs I began to see what this was really all about. You see, just the day before I wrote about having faith in the line you can’t see and quite frankly, I can’t see the line right now but I know it’s there. God’s greatness hasn’t changed… He is bigger than any “job” there is out there. I can imagine Satan doing the “awww man” move that “Swiper” does in the popular cartoon “Dora The Explorer” because he probably thought I’d turn to him after God “failed me.” Sorry Satan… my God never fails.

The same hold true for each of you. Some of you are facing my trial. Others of you are facing different circumstances but there’s one thing I can put my life on… and that’s :

He Won’t Fail

(When you pray), let Him have His way.
(In your moment of prayer), let Him have His way.
(In your private time), let Him have His way; He won’t fail.

Verse 2:
(When He’s working on you), let Him have His way.
(When He’s dealing with you), let Him have His way.
(When He’s speaking to you), let Him have His way; He won’t fail.

Chorus:
He won’t fail, He won’t fail,
my God won’t ever fail.

Verse 3:
(When He calls on you), let Him have His way.
(When He’s reaching out for you), let Him have His way.
(When His presence is here), let Him have His way; He won’t fail.

Chorus

Vamp:
He won’t fail,
my God won’t ever fail.

Scripture To Remember:

Phillippians 4:6-7 Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

Job 1:
21 Naked I came from my mother’s womb, naked I’ll return to the womb of the earth.God gives, God takes. God’s name be ever blessed.

So… here I am… waiting on God to instruct me on what’s next. Will you pray for me? I promise I’ll return the favor. Until then…

Note: I’m holding on for dear life… I’m terrified even…
Good morning. Last year my husband and I went zip lining in Honduras (see above photo). As a matter of a fact, it was called “Xtreme Zip lining.”  The experience was amazing but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t terrified when it finally came time to jump. The way zip lining works is you travel up a steep mountain via jeep or van and once at the top you are hooked onto a “line” and forced to jump off of the side of the same mountain you traveled up via automobile. Your only choices are to a) jump or b) stay in the same place. There is no going backwards; the only way to safety is to jump. In order to jump you must put your faith in the line (which you can’t see for the most part). Hearing and seeing all of this made me ask, “How safe is this?” Our intructor’s answer would always be, “ziplining is extremely safe…except in cases of operator error. You’ll be fine… just don’t look down!” In other words, as long as we did what was instructed of us and held on to the faith in the “line” we’d make it to the other side. Our experience included 8 jumps and by the end of our endeavor I wanted to do it over and over again! After I recognized that jumping was the best way to the other side, I didn’t hesitate again!

 Sound familiar?

Life is a lot like zip lining. You know your purpose. You know your blessing is on the other side of the “line” but you are too afraid to jump. You can’t see the rope directly in front of you and have to rely on the testimony of the instructor to get you through. You’ve heard stories about how great it is to be able to “jump” without fear but you can’t see how faithful your line really is. You are often stuck at the jumping spot looking at others walk in their destiny. What do you do? Speaking from experience jumping can prove fruitful in many ways. God did not give you a spirit of fear (1 Timothy 1:7)… so what are you waiting on? JUMP!

Note: See? It wasn’t so bad after all!

Scripture To Remember:

“Xtreme Faith”
Matthew 8: 5-6
As Jesus entered the
village of Capernaum, a Roman captain came up in a panic and said,
“Master, my servant is sick. He can’t walk. He’s in terrible pain.”
7 Jesus said, “I’ll come and heal him.”
 8-9 “Oh,
no,” said the captain. “I don’t want to put you to all that trouble.
Just give the order and my servant will be fine. I’m a man who takes
orders and gives orders. I tell one soldier, ‘Go,’ and he goes; to
another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

 10-12 Taken aback,
Jesus said, “I’ve yet to come across this kind of simple trust in
Israel, the very people who are supposed to know all about God and how
he works. This man is the vanguard of many outsiders who will soon be
coming from all directions-streaming in from the east, pouring in from
the west, sitting down at God’s kingdom banquet alongside Abraham,
Isaac, and Jacob. Then those who grew up ‘in the faith’ but had no
faith will find themselves out in the cold, outsiders to grace and
wondering what happened.”
 13 Then
Jesus turned to the captain and said, “Go. What you believed could
happen has happened.” At that moment his servant became well.

When you need a song…

Faithful
by Hezekiah Walker

           (click cd cover for audio)

Faithful, faithful, faithful is our God
Faithful, faithful, faithful is our God
Faithful, faithful, faithful is our God
Faithful, faithful, faithful is our God
I’m reaping the harvest God promised me
Take back what the devil stole from me
And I rejoice today, for I shall recover it all
Yes, I rejoice today, for I shall rocover it all

Holy, holy, holy is our God
Holy, holy, holy is our God
Holy, holy, holy is our God
Holy, holy, holy is our God
I’m reaping the harvest God promised me
Take back what the devil stole from me
And I rejoice today, for I shall recover it all
Yes, I rejoice today, for I shall rocover it all

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is our God
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is our God
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is our God
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is our God
I’m reaping the harvest God promised me
Take back what the devil stole from me

And I rejoice today
For I shall recover it all

Zip lining truly changed my life. It put faith in an entirely new perspective. While I was
sure I’d die and the cable would somehow fail me if I jumped I listened to what
my instructor was telling me. The funny part is, half the time I couldn’t understand
what he was saying. (lol) Some of you may be frustrated with “church” and “preachers”
because there is a language barrier. It takes a lot of intense listening and
patience to hear from God. He likes to use those things (and people) that you
wouldn’t ordinarily listen to speak to you. Who would have thought I’d learn a
lifelong lesson from zip lining after all? Today as you go throughout your day
stop and listen to the unconventional and small things… you just may learn
something that will change your life. I’m praying for you…

January 29, 2009 – There’s A Worshipper In YOU January 29, 2009

Filed under: Daily Devotions — ladydoss @ 2:09 pm

Good morning.

If someone asked you to define worship, what would you say?
Would you show them? How would you make that person understand what worship
means to you? Last night, my worship team and I had this very discussion and
surprisingly we had a hard time actually defining what worship really meant. It
was frustrating as a worship leader to not be able to convey a message in
words about worship and in true “Lady Doss” fashion, I began to research and
write.

My initial question became, is there one true definition of
worship? Does the Bible lay out what worship is to look like? Smell like? Sound
like? How do we know what we are doing is right? The book definition of worship
is “reverence offered a divine being or supernatural
power” or” extravagant respect or admiration for or devotion to an object of
esteem.” This definition wasn’t something I didn’t already know so I began to
dig deeper. Paul is one of my favorite writers and I somehow knew his writings
would hold the answer. Romans 12:1-2 reads:

I urge you therefore, brethren, by the
mercies of God to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable
to God which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to
this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove
what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable, or well pleasing
and perfect.

This passage says it all. It speaks
to the motivation to worship (the mercies of God), how to worship (presenting
our total body: hearts, hands, mouths, ears, minds, etc as a living sacrifice),
as well as what happens when we worship (renewal of the mind). People tend to
get caught up in where to worship, or what music to sing, or even how their
worship may look to other people. I’m guilty of the same. I worry that my
worship may be too much for some or not enough for others. I worry that some
may question my sincerity because my worship may not sound or look like theirs.
However, the truth of the matter is worship doesn’t have a particular look,
sound, smell, or taste but there are certain characteristics that worship and a
worshipper must possess. True worship is felt on the inside long before it is
ever manifested on the inside. We feel our worship and it often results in
lifted hands or shouts to God. So from this point forward focus on worship from
the inside out and I can assure you those watching from the outside in will be
touched by you.

Scripture To Remember:

Psalm 22: 22 Here’s the story I’ll tell my friends when they come to worship,
      and punctuate it with Hallelujahs:
   Shout Hallelujah, you God-worshipers;
      give glory, you sons of Jacob;
adore him, you daughters of Israel.
He has never let you down,
      never looked the other way

You are holy, I really love you
In the spirit, I love to worship you

Out of all the things I am, everything I hope to be
if you look into my heart, there’s a worshiper in me
worshiper in me

You are holy, I really love you
In the spirit, I love to worship you

Out of all the things I am, everything I hope to be
if you look into my heart, there’s a worshiper in me

The spirit of the Lord is upon me
and the worshiper is in me

Out of all the things I am, everything I hope to be
if you look into me heart, there is a worshiper in me
there’s a worshiper in me

I love to worship, I love to worship you

I’d love to hear from you…

What does worship mean to you? Do you need certain eliments of worship? Are you more comfortable worshipping alone or in a group? As a worship leader, what are some things you expect of me during worship services? What are things you dislike?

Worship. It isn’t an entertaining showcase for a talented soprano or a
lecture on textual criticism or a pleasant weekly reunion of friends
and family. Instead, true worship is a joyous celebration of the life,
death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. And as we actively turn our
hearts toward God in earnest praise of God’s great works, God in turn
speaks to us and blesses us with a healing and renewing touch. In this life-changing and dynamic book, Robert Webber declares that worship is not something done to us or for us, but by us.
It is the most exhaustive demonstration of our faith and the most
intimate form of relationship we can have with our Savior. Complete
with a guide for group of personal study, Worship Is a Verb will show you how to leave the dull confines of the pew and enter the courts of the Living God.

The Topics Include:

  1. Winds of Change
  2. Principle One: Worship Celebrates Christ
  3. Principle Two: Worship Tells and Acts Out the Christ-Event
  4. Principle Three: In Worship God Speaks and Acts
  5. Principle Four: Worship Is an Act of Communication
  6. Principle Five: In Worship We Respond to God and Each Other
  7. Principle Six: Return Worship to the People
  8. Principle Seven: All Creation Joins in Worship, Part I
  9. Principle Seven: All Creation Joins in Worship, Part II
  10. Principle Eight: Worship As a Way of Life

January 27, 2009 – “Fear Not… For This Too Shall Pass” January 27, 2009

Filed under: Daily Devotions — ladydoss @ 1:27 pm

Good morning.

Picture this: You’re watching the news and the forecast
tells you that a major hurricane is about to hit. You know the storm is coming
but you continue life as usual. You do nothing to prepare and brace yourself
for what is about to happen. An hour before the storm hits you realize that you
have to take cover so you go to your closet to pray and wait. An hour passes…and
nothing happens. Another hour…nothing. You find the courage to get up and look
out of your window and you see all the devastation around you but nothing
happened to you. You think “wow, it passed over me” but you don’t understand
why.

Our lives are a lot like this. Today I’m going to share a
story about myself. When I was younger I was lost. I didn’t know why I was
still alive and for a long time I wanted to die. At the age of 16 I attempted
to take my own life. As I sat in an empty room with a bottle of pills in one
hand and a drink in the other I began to picture the storm of death being forecasted
over my life. I pictured the devastation and damage my death storm would cause.
I could see my funeral, my burial, and the hurt and pain in everyone’s faces
when they’d heard the news that I was dead. I took 30 or so pills and
waited for the storm of death to overtake me. An hour passed…nothing, I was
still alive. I couldn’t understand what was (or wasn’t happening). Another hour…nothing,
I was STILL here. I remember waking up in the hospital thinking, “God why did
you let this pass over me? I just knew the storms of my life would destroy me
and yet you continued to let me live.” God spoke to me and said, “because you
aren’t finished yet…” and here I am today.

For any of you who have seen the forecast of your life and
all you can see are storms, fear not! The answer to yesterday’s trivia question
was “do not be afraid.” There is a reason this saying appears 365 times in the
Bible. That means there is a verse for EVERYDAY. So today, and everyday, stand
on the promises of God that tell you to not be afraid… for He is with you.

Scripture To Remember:

Matthew 8: 23-25 Then he got in the
boat, his disciples with him. The next thing they knew, they were in a
severe storm. Waves were crashing into the boat-and he was sound
asleep! They roused him, pleading, “Master, save us! We’re going down!”

 26Jesus reprimanded
them. “Why are you such cowards, such faint-hearts?” Then he stood up
and told the wind to be silent, the sea to quiet down: “Silence!” The
sea became smooth as glass.
27The men rubbed their eyes, astonished. “What’s going on here? Wind and sea come to heel at his command!”

It Passed Over Me
by Vashawn Mitchell & Friends

           (click cd cover for audio)

I don’t why He did it

Can’t tell you how He did it

All I can say is that He cares

Not because of how good I was

But because of how great He is

He looked beyond my faults

And saw my needs

God allowed everything

To pass over me

Could have been dead in an accident

Could have lost my life

But there’s a reason I’m still here

Not because of how good I was

But because of how great He is

He looked beyond my faults

And saw all of my needs

God allowed everything

To pass over me

He didn’t let it be

Oh no, it passed over me

The devil tried to take me out of here

But God He didn’t

Let it be

Oh no, it passed over me

Tried to take my life but God didn’t

Let it be

Oh no, it passed over me

I don’t deserve it

So unworthy

He didn’t, let it be

So grateful

Very thankful

He didn’t, let it be

Yes

It passed over me

God didn’t, let it be

The Message: The Bible In Contemporary Language

If you’re like me the King James version of the Bible can be down right confusing. The Message is a great tool and reads like a novel. Try it out!

“The goal of The Message is to engage people in the reading
process and help them understand what they read. This is not a study
Bible, but rather “a reading Bible.” The verse numbers, which are not
in the original documents, have been left out of the print version to
facilitate easy and enjoyable reading. The original books of the Bible
were not written in formal language. The Message tries to recapture the Word in the words we use today.

January 26, 2009- Soul Cleanse January 26, 2009

Filed under: Daily Devotions — ladydoss @ 2:57 pm

Good morning.

On Friday I took my car to the “Car Spa” because I
desperately needed a car wash. I can honestly say that my car hadn’t been
washed in months! I was driving around in a dirty automobile wondering what
folks were thinking about the fact that my black car was now gray.

In any event, as I pulled into the establishment I was asked, “What
can we do for you today?” I replied, “I’d like my car washed
please.” After that I was given a choice of services that could be
performed on my vehicle. There was the “deluxe” wash that included an
interior cleaning, shampoo, and exterior wash and wax. There was the
“regular” wash that included an interior vacuum and exterior wash.
Finally, there was a “quick” wash that included an exterior wash and dry.
I chose the latter. When asked if I was sure that was what I wanted to do… I
replied, “Well yes, I don’t have the time or energy to clean all this mess
on the inside. As long as the outside is clean no one will be able to see the
inside. I have tint anyway.”

As I waited on my car to be finished God began to speak to me. It dawned on me
that a lot of times our lives are a lot like a dirty car. Even more often we
treat worship like a car wash. Some of us make the extra effort to clean on the
inside while others of us opt for a quick wash so that we can go along living
our “inside” lives anyway we want. After all, no one will see it
anyway right? We use our “tint” (the fact that we are a preacher, teacher,
singer, prophet, etc) as an excuse to cover up our mess on the inside. We think
we have everyone fooled with our consistent church attendance or evangelism,
when the truth it we could all use a deluxe wash every now and then.

So the next time God offers you a wash what will you opt for? Try the deluxe
soul cleanse… after all the price was already paid for you on Calvary.

Scripture To Remember:

Psalm 51: 7
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken may rejoice.
9 Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners shall be converted to You.

January 23, 2009 – Who You Talkin’ To? January 23, 2009

Filed under: Daily Devotions — ladydoss @ 5:37 pm

Good morning.

Have you ever prayed for someone’s situation only to have that very same situation manifest in your life? How did it make you feel? Were you confused? Did you question why it happened? Were you frustrated? Angry?

I believe this happens for a reason. You see, as Christians, it’s very easy to pray elaborate prayers for other people but in our own times of strife we forget those same prayers. When others need spiritual guidance every uplifting scripture we know comes to mind but when we are faced with turmoil we somehow forget everything we spoke into others lives.

So what do we do? I believe that we should first recognize the power of prayer in one’s own life. Did you know that even Jesus prayed? The Bible teaches us that Jesus prayed because of His dependence upon and His obedience to the Father. John 5:30 reads:

I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is
righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father
who sent Me.

Jesus also prayed to teach us that as children of God, our obedience to the will of God will bring us spiritual blessing.
So in praying for others, don’t forget to pray the same blessings over your own life. You never know when you will be faced with a similar situation. Remember, God tests our faith but the promises of God are already ours.

Promises
by Vashawn Mitchell & Friends

I hear the sound

The abundance of rain

That means my blessings

Are on the way

I may not see it

I believe it

The promises of God

Are already mine

Already mine

Already mine

I believe

It’s already mine

If God said it

I believe it

I’ll stand on His word

Until I receive it

I’ll hold on

To His every word

The promises of God are already mine

Mine already mine (repeat)

The promises of God

Are already mine

Scripture To Remember:
(Note:
This passage of scripture is written in reference to the return of the Messiah but can be applied to your lives as well. We do not know when situations will arise in our lives, but we are to be on alert that situations may come.)

Mark 13: 32-37“But the exact day and
hour? No one knows that, not even heaven’s angels, not even the Son.
Only the Father. So keep a sharp lookout, for you don’t know the
timetable. It’s like a man who takes a trip, leaving home and putting
his servants in charge, each assigned a task, and commanding the
gatekeeper to stand watch. So, stay at your post, watching. You have no
idea when the homeowner is returning, whether evening, midnight,
cockcrow, or morning. You don’t want him showing up unannounced, with
you asleep on the job. I say it to you, and I’m saying it to all: Stay
at your post. Keep watch.”
